Communication

1 Why is communication important?
It is important because of the fact that it allows you to communicate with other people and know events that is going on there without actually having to be there.

2 What is/are your favourite form/s of communication? Why?
My favourite form of communication is the online instant messaging and Sms. I like them because they are very easy. They are also very instant and can send messages as fast as possible.

3 How do you decide which form of communication to use in a situation?
When it is urgent and you need immediate reply, you call the person so you can get an answer as soon as possible. When you need to ask questions which is not that important, I either use online instant messaging or sms. When i want to chat for fun, i go to online socialising network.

4 What difficulties do you face in communicating with others?

When we are talking indirectly, it may be hard for us to understand each other rather than talking face to face. So, i think it’s better to talk to each other directly rather than indirectly.

Orientation camp ( 7-8 Jan) Reflections

What are the three main points (or more) that you had learnt from all the activities?
1) Firstly, I have learnt that in a team, we cannot get what we always want and do our own way. We must share our opinions and thoughts together as a team during discussion. We also must have perseverance, a good team-bonding, respect, teamwork and good communication skills to create a fun and forever- lasting team that will never fades away.
2) I must listen attentively and respect be it trainers, teachers, classmates or leaders so that we can do our task faster and in order. And i think that is lacking in our class.
3) I must also be positive in whatever we do and overcome our fear in everything and try new things because sooner or later, we will have to try them.

How can this pointers be of help to you?
It can help me understand the meaning of being a team and how i can volunteer in helping my team succeed. I can also change the better of me be it in personalities or behaviour.

If you were to have another chance to try the activities, which one will you chose? Why?
I will definitely try all, but given only one choice, i think i will choose the telematch. To me, i think the telematch is the best activity in the camp and it carries a strong meaning. The game is quite interesting and fun. We need to have good communication skills, patience and teamwork to achieve the objectives of that game. I think my class can do better than what we had done if we have a good fighting spirit.

If there is one thing that you would like to change about yourself, what would it be?
I think i want to be a good follower who will respect others when they are talking as well as a good listener. I hope that by being a good follower, i can be good leader... =D

#2 The Amazing Race- debrief(ll)

  • What do you understand about the school value "Expanding Our Learning Networks"?
  • I understand that we learn not only in school but beyond the school compound to expand our knowledge.
  • Why is this value important and how will it help you in your learning experience in SST?
  • This value is important because we can gather more knowledge when we learn outside the school by observing the surroundings. It will help me to expand my knowledge and need not always rely on books and laptop.

Team-building challenge #2 - debrief(ll)

  • What do you understand about the school value ‘Forging Excellence’?
  • I understand that my school wants us to do our best and strive for excellence in everything that we do.
  • What are the strengths that you think you possess which can help you to achieve excellence?
  • I have nothing good to say but i have good leadership, responsibility and more...
  • What other attributes and attitudes do you think you need to cultivate to excel in the things you do?
  • I must be positive and not think of negative things. I should believe in myself that i can do it and i must respect others as well as myself.
  • How can you contribute to help your class succeed?
  • I can be involved in activities and share suggestionsto the whole class about the topics we are talking about.

Bridge-building activity- Debrief(ll)

  • How do you feel about working in a team on the bridge-building project?
  • Actually, i felt blessed as i get to try hands-on work on the first day of school and get to know my classmates better when working as a team. I think team activities must be done often.
  • What do you think about your interactions with the members in your team?
  • i think it was pretty well as all in my group are girls and it is easier to interact with girls than boys even though we faced some challenges.
  • What have you learnt about yourself in the course of the activity and what will you do differently in future team activities?
  • I learnt that it is not an easy task and i had overcome the problem and is more confident for future teamwork activities. I will try to focus and make good use of the time given for us to do the work.
  • Did you experience any fear, discomfort, or apprehension working with this team? Why?
  • Yes, i felt all of the above. I felt fearful because i did not know all of them. i felt discomfort because i am not that close to them when i first met them. I felt apprehensive because i am not sure whether they would accept me to work with them.
  • How did you overcome it? I tell myself that everything going to change and if i do not start and make new friends, i will regret. I also believe that i can do well in this school.
